I first came to VOT about a year ago after not having much luck online.
I really wanted to give working at home a try because I was commuting over an
hour each way to work everyday.

I was excited about finding VOT but I'll admit, I didn't have much luck at first. I applied
to every project and never heard a thing. Then one day I got an email from a potential
employer via my VOT members account. He told me that they were looking through
VOT member resume profiles but disqualified mine because it was so short and did not
contain many details.

It was then that I realized that the resume profile was very basic and plain compared to
many of the others that had been posted. No wonder I hadn't heard from any hiring
managers!!

I got myself a copy of Wow! Resumes for Administrative Careers and created a new profile. I took my time,
focused on my accomplishments (instead of just my previous job duties) and
submitted an online portfolio of my history to go with it. I also noticed that
EVERYBODY seems to say they have great "clerical" or "administrative" skills.
I mean, who doesn't, right? So instead, I focused on my marketing background
and highlighted my additional skills such as my ability to write ad copy and design brochures.

Well, it only took a week or so before I started receiving notices that my
VOT profile was being viewed by employers. I then started receiving requests
for additional information. By the following week I had been offered a job as
a Marketing Assistant making $14 per hour!

I love my job! I am working from home 9-5, Monday - Friday.
I handle mostly online ad copy but I also do some online research
and general clerical work.

So take my advice- put some effort in to your VOT resume portfolio.
If you don't - your competition will!!!
